Journey  from Accreditation to Re-Accreditation

Journey  from  Accreditation  to  Re-accreditation is  a  journey  of  exploration  and  exploitation  of  our  potentiality  and  resources.  It  is  also  a  journey  which involves  self analysis  and  forethought.  The  college  went  for First  accreditation  on  25th  & 26th August  2004.  The peer  team  thoroughly  went  through  all  the  details  furnished  by  the  college.  They  had a long  interaction with  the  Management , Governing  Council,  Local  Advisory  Committee, the  Principal , the  co-ordinator  and  staff members.  They  spoke  with  the  parents  Alumni Association,  Public and  the  students.  They  shed  light  on  all  the  positive  and  negative  aspects  of the  Institution. The  peer  team  recommended  many  suggestions  to  enhance  quality  and  strength  of  the  college  like

  • Teachers may  strive  for  career  advancement  by  going  for  Ph.D., and  M.Phil.,  programme.
  • Article  Publication.
  • Greater  use  of  Technological devices.( ICT Based)
  • Teachers  need  to  acquire  Computer  and  Communicating  skills.
  • Implementation  of  add-0n course.
  • Existing  facility  in sports and  games  need  to be  enhanced.
  • AIDS  prevention  programme, Blood  Donation Camps, Sex education  etc could  be  introduced. 
  • The  commerce  department  may  try to Introduce  “ Intership”
  • Campus  recruitment.
  • Eminent  state  and  National  leaders  may  be  invited  for  Lecturers etc.  And  finally  the  NACC  Awarded  the  college  with  B+ level  
  • In  this  back ground  we  took  elaborate  measures  and  good  care  to 
  • strengthen  our  selves  in  the  area  of  weakness,  For  instance.

  • One  member of  the  staff completed  his  research  work  in  the  X plan  and  awarded  Ph.D.,  Degree  at  present  he  is  doing  Minor Research Project sponsored  by  U.G.C.  Another  member  submitted  her final  synopsis  for  Ph.D.  award.  Six  members  were  awarded  with  M.Phil degrees.
  • Many  members  of  staff published  their  academic articles  in  reputed / recognized professional   journals.
  • We  made  it  mandatory  for  the  Arts  students  to have  basic  computer  knowledge.  At  present,   we  are  having  31  computer  and  we  provided  Internet facility.
  • We  are  conducting English  speaking  course  regularly  for  our  students.
  • Office  staff are  also  provided  with  computer and  initiatives  are  taken  to  computerize  the  Library  and  Office  system.
  • As  per  the  recommendation  of  the  NACC Committee  the  college  conducted  a few Job meals. 
  • Greater Sports  facilities  were  provided.
  • The  college  conducted  National  Intigratin  Camp  and Two  National Adventure  programme  under  N.S.S.  activities.  Many eminent  scholars such  as  Sri  Mattur Krishnamurthy,  President,  Indian  Culture  Center,  London,  Sri  D.B.Chandre Gowda,  Member of Parliament,  Dr. P. Narayan,  Former Vice  President  National  Ploio  eradication  Council,  New  Delhi,  Prof.  B.K.Chandrashekar,  former  sspeaker,  Karnataka  legislative  assembly, addressed our students.
  • We have  organized  many  University   State and National  camps. Blood  donation  camps,  Aids  awareness programme,  Literacy  programme  etc.
  • A library  hall is  constructed  with  the  U.G.C.  Assistance.
  • College  purchased  may  modern  equipment  with  U.G.C.  assistances.
  • College annual magazine “Sharavathi” published.

  • We know  that  we  have  many miles  to  go.  We  are  moving  forward  with  determination  to  excel  in  the  field  of  education  and  we  strive  hard  to  full fill them.

Innovative  practices

   IQAC has  been  constituted,  as  per  NACC guideline.  It  monitors  the  activities  of  the  institution  and  take care of  quality  sustenance  measures  to be  implemented/adopted.  The  Management,  College  Governing  Council,  Local  Advisory  Committee,  College  Development  Council  of  the  University,  the  Affiliation Committee  are  the  other  agencies.  The  Management also  obtains  feed  back  and  workdone  statement  frequently.  Following  are  the   functions  carried  out  by  the  above  mechanisms  in  the  quality  enhancement  of  the  Institution. 

v     Nearly  20 various  sub committees  working  in  our  college  under  IQAC.
v     Orgaising discussion,  Workshops,  seminars,  Education  tours  etc  for  students.
v     Co-curricular  Activities  and  Extension Activities  are  conducted  by  cultural  Club,  various  forms  and  N.S.S. 
v     Sports  activities  are  conducted  regularly.
v     Wall  magazine  Suprabha,  Annual  Magazine  Sharavathi  is  published  regularly. 
Scholarships  prizes,  Awards,  Poor Students  fund  and  Mid-day  Meal  facilities  are  encouraged.

Governance Leadership

          The  success of  an  educational  institution  depends  on  the  organization  and  management.  Luckily  our  college  is  having  a good  management.  N.E.S. is  the  management of  our  Intuition. It  was  established  in  1946  by  Freedom Fighters of  Shivamogga  District. 

v     N.E.S. is a  registered  Society  registered  under  societies  Act.  The Executive Committee  as  an  apex  body  of  N.E.S.,  consist  of elected  representatives,  elected  from  among the  life  members  of  the  Society.  The  elected  members  are  eminent  personalities  from  different  walks  of  life  like  Freedom Fighters,  Industrialist,  Businessmen,  Advocates, Agriculturist,  Social  Workers  and  Academic  persons.  The  administration  and  the policy  making  is  looked  after  by  the  Management.
v     For  the  development of  the  college  local  support  is  necessary.  Therefore  our  Management  has  constituted,  College  Governing  Council  and  Local  Advisory  Committees,  at  Konandur  to  look after  the  development  activities  of  the  college.
v     The  management runs  43  Institutions  of  various  disciplines.
v     There  are  several  committees  constituted  in  the  college  to  co-ordinate  various  activities  of  the  college.
v     Fee  structure  is designed  by  the  Government  and  University. 
v     The  Financial  Accounts of  the  college are  regularly  audited  by  management.  Chartered  Accountants  and State  Accounts  Department. 
v     Staff  Association  is  in  existence.  It  takes  care  of   the  grievances  of  the  staff members.
v     Management  and  Members  of  staff are  working  as  members  of  a family.  Management encourages  the  members  of  staff  to  improve  professional  efficiency.

          Our  college  always  aimed  at  fulfilling  the  needs  of  the  students,  our  purpose  is  to  make  the students  better  citizens  of  our  country.  Various  support  service  are  made  available  to  our students.

v     Apart  from class room  teaching,  Study circle,  Computer  facilities,  Library  facilities,  guest  Lecturers,  Counseling  are provided  as  academic  support.
v     Our college  is a rural  college,  many  students  hails  from  poor  agricultural  families,  for  such students  we  are  providing  financial  assistance in  the  form  of scholarships  from  state,  central Government  and  Trusts.  Poor  Students Fund,  Students  welfare fund,  are  existing  to help  the  students, Free Mid-day  meal  facilities  available,  these  facilities  were  provided  by  the  staff members.  Apart from  these  various  prizes  and  awards  are  established.  
v     For  solving  the  Social  problems  regular counseling  is  conducted.
v     Sports  activities  are  conducted  to  promote  sport  skill among the  students.
v     The  cultural  club helps  the  students  to  participate  in  cultural  activities.
v     The college  is  having  healthy  environment  and  eco-friendly  atmosphere.  The  college  garden, Sports ground,  Mini forest,  Separate common rooms, Indoor games  facility  and  the  recreation  room  keeps  the  healthy  environment in  the  college.
v     Through  placement  cell.  We  guide  and  help  our  students  in  placement.  We  guide  them  to take  competitive  examinations. 
v     We guide  the  students for  self  employment.  As  the  main  profession  of  many  parents of this  area  is  agriculture,  we  are  guiding  our  students  to  take  up  innovative methods  in  agriculture,  floriculture,  sericulture  and  rising  plantation  crops  and agriculture  marketing.  Girl  students  we  guided  them  in  tailoring,   embroidery etc. 
v     Cultural  and Inter state  youth exchange programmes are  conducted. 
v     N.S.S.  volunteers are  encouraged  to attend college  level,  University  level  and  National  camps.  Our  college  had conducted one  cultural exchange  programme.  One  National  Intigraton Camp, in which  250 volunteers  from  various  Universities participated,  two  National  Adventure  programme  are  also  conducted,  in which  25  volunteers  from  18 states took part.
v     Our  college  N.S.S. volunteers  are  selected  to  participate  in  state R.D.  4 times, State  I.D. 4 times,  National  R.D. 4 times,  National  Integration Camp  7 times,    Youth  parliament  programme  New Delhi – once.
v     Wall  magazine  called  “Suprabha”  and  annual  Magazine  “Sharavathi”  is  published  regularly to  publish  the  articles  written by our  students  and staff members.      

N.S.S. Award

Three State  N.S.S.  Award  in a  decade:

           Three  state awards  for  our N.S.S. unit  and  programme  officers in  2000-01,  2005-06,  2007-08 and  Three University awards  2000-01,  2005-06,  2009-10. Three state  awrds  in  a Decade  is  our  special  achievement.  Still we  are not  satisfied ,  there  is  yet  to do more for  the  society  and  mankind through  Extension activities.
 
     Our N.S.S. unit has made a name not only in the Kuvempu University but also in the state. So far, we have secured State Awards thrice for outstanding achieve-ments. Therefore we strongly believe that we should tell some thing about the same.

The N.S.S. unit was started in our college in the year 1989. Our college and our village is the suitable place for the implementation of Gandhiji's concept "Grama Swaraj".

Our N.S.S. Unit consist of students, who are from rural areas. Making them to understand the social values, responsibilities and community services is our objective. Our N.S.S. volunteers are continuously participating in programmes such as Pulse-polio campaign, Sapling plants, Literacy Programme, Drug awareness, AIDS awareness, Anti Plastic awareness Jatha, blood donation camps etc.

We have been conducting annual special camps regularly. So far Our NSS unit has created permanent assets worth of Rs. 20,73,375.00. We have constructed 07 Samudaya Bhavan at Kerekodi village, Avaka village and Humchada katte village, Anganvadi (Nursery Schools) building at Humchadakatte and Huttalli villages. Rainwater harvesting is one of the most important projects worth mentioning. Our N.S.S. volunteers have participated in several university level and National level camps and Seminars, State and National R.D. parades.

During 2004-05 we constructed an auditorium at Sri Padmamba High School worth Rs. 6,00,000-00.

During 2005-06 we focused on personality development and skill development which helps the students self employability. It was appreciated by the university.

During 2006-07 we organised Inter University Women’s camp in Association with the Kuvempu University. More than 250 girl volunteers participated in the camp.

During 2007-08 we organized National Integration Camp and National Adventure programme. 150 volunteers from 13 States participated in National Integration Camp and 25 volunteers from 16 states participated in National Adventure Programme. We also conducted Two blood donation Camps and donated 107 units of blood to the district government blood blank.

Extension activities

            Extension  activities  are  conducted  through  NS.S.  and  Cultural  Club.  

            The  following  extension  activities  are  carried  out and it is continued  in  the current  academic year  also. 

1.      Adult  Education  and  Literacy  programme.
2.      Rain  water  Harvesting
3.      Mass  Tree plantation.
4.      Personality  and  skill development  programmes  such  as,  script  writing,  Embroidery ,  Doll making,  Art  of  Ikebana  and  Bonsai,  Gardening,  Communicative  English.
5.      Construction of  community  Hall,  Anganavadi Buildings,  Public  Toilets,  Creation  of  Play ground,  Village  Library  Building  and  Renovation  of  Temples  with  the  assistance  from  Government,  public  and  other  N.G.O’s.
6.      Conducting  Health  camps,  Blood  Donation Camps,  AIDS Awareness programmes.
Environment  awareness  programmes : Local Youth  Clubs,  Rotary and other   N.G.O’s  Joining us in  Extension  activities.

Research,  Consultancy  and  Extension

             Our college is  primarily  an  undergraduate  and  affiliated  college.  There  is  little  scope  for  research  activities,  still we  are  providing  support  to faculty  members  to  do  research  and  guidance  is  given to  the  students  about  the  research  projects.  There  is  no  separate  Mechanism  for  consultancy,  with  the  help  of  the  Alumni,  the  consultation  activities is going  on.  The  Extension  activities  carried  through N.S.S.  and  Cultural  Club. 

Research.

v     There  are  two  schemes  available  for  the  faculty  members  to promote  research

1)      F.I.P.  programme  of  U.G.C.
2)      Management  support. 

            Our  college  was  included  in  2(F) and 12(B) of  U.G.C.  Act  in  the middle  of  IX plan  period.  Our  teachers were  not  able  to  get  the  F.I.P. benefit  during  IX plan  period.  In  Xth  plan  period  one  member  of  the  Faculty was selected  for research  under  F.I.P,  completed  his research  and was  awarded Ph.D., degree.  In  the  XI plan  period  he  is  doing  Minor  research  project  sponsored  by  U.G.C.  Another  member  of  the  faculty  is  doing  research  at  Hampi  University.  6 members  of  the  staff  completed  their  project  works  and  awarded  M.Phil  degree.  Our  management  also  assisting  the  faculty  members  to do research.

Teaching – Learning and Evaluation


Teaching – Learning  and  Evaluation.

            Teaching  and learning  process  is  the major  activities  of  an  educational  institution.  The  Institution  has  to  provide  adequate  teaching and  learning  experience  to  the  learners,  Fortunately  the  college  is  having  well qualified and dedicated  faculty members. 


v     Orientation programme  is  arranged  at  the  beginning of  the  academic  year  for  the new students. 
v     Bridge  course is  conducted  at  the  beginning  of  the year for  the  students who are new  to the  course. 
v     B.A./B.Com.  courses are  of  three  years  duration.  The  students  study  two  language  and  three optional subjects  in  B.A.  course  and  two  languages  and  commerce subjects as optional  in  B.Com.  They  study  Languages in  the first two  years.  Now  the students  of  all course  have  to study.  Indian  constitution and  Environmental Science  as  compulsory  subjects.  The  students  of  B.Com. have  to complete  skill development  as  a part  of  their  curriculum. 
v     Remedial  classes  are  conducted  for  the  slow  learners.
v     Advanced learners  are  given  opportunities  to participate  in seminars and  paper  presentation.
v     Guest  Lecturers,  Group  discussions  and  study  circle  are formed  for the  benefit  of  the students.
v     Prizes and  Awards  are  awarded  to the toppers.
v     Poor Boys Fund, Free Mid-day Meal  facility  are  available  for  needy  students.
v     Educational  excursions,  visit  to Bank  and Business  firms  are conducted. 
v     Teachers prepare  work  plans,  Maintains  Teaching  Diary and  conduct tests.
v     Apart from lecture method,  innovative methods  are  also  used  in class  rooms,  OHP, Video Film,   LCD are used, Group discussions,  Seminar are  conducted,  Assignments  are given,  computer Lab with  internet  facilities  provided. 
v     Over all performance  of  the  students  achievements  is  evaluated.  In  addition  to  examinations,  paper  presentation  group  discussion etc.,  their  participation  in co-curricular  activities,  sports,  N.S.S. activities are  also  taken  to account.  Taking  into  account the performance  of  the  students  in the above  activities   “ Best  student  Award”  is  given at  the end  of the  academic year. 
v      Self  appraisal  method  is  adopted to  evaluate  the  performance of the faculty     
        students  also  asses  the  performance  of the  faculty – by feed back.
v     The faculty members  attend Refresher  and orientation  courses  conducted  by  Staff Training  college regularly. 
v     We have  good  Digital  Library Facility, There are  about  11.453  volumes.  Library  work from  10.00 am  to  5.00 pm.  Final  year students  are  getting  nine books at  a time,  First & Second  years  are getting  two  books.  Book Bank  facilities  is provided. Leading  News  Papers, periodicals  and  journals  are subscribed.  Trained  Library  assistant  is  in charge  of the Library.
v     One member  of  the  faculty  has  completed  research  under  F.I.P.  in  Xth  plan  and  awarded  the  Ph.D. Degree  from  Mysore  University  and  he is  presently   doing Minor Research Project sponsored by  U.G.C. Another member  is  doing  research  and submitted  her  final  synopsis  to  Hampi  Kannada  University.  Six  member of  our  staff  completed  M.Phil  degree.  Apart  from  UGC,  our  management  is  encouraging  the  faculty  members  for  higher  studies.  Study  leave  and  Financial  assistance  is  provided  by  the  Management.
